Earthy, smooth, woody and luscious, ripe Pu’er tea will introduce you to the complex world of aged teas. Once reserved only for the royalties, Puer tea dates back to Tang dynasty and has been used in traditional Chinese medicine.

 

Pu’er tea is a dark tea processed through microbial fermentation of larger leaf Camellia senses and is either raw (‘sheng’) or ripe (‘shou’) based on the production process. Raw Puer tea is aged by traditional technique for longer while Ripe Pu’er tea adopts a modern accelerated production process to achieve a similar flavour profile as raw Pu erh tea.

 

Spice Zen’s Ripe Pu’er tea is certified organic, premium quality loose leaf tea, sourced from China. This dark tea has rich, earthy, mushroomy, woody flavour and aroma that changes to slightly smoky, floral with sweet notes over multiple infusions. This tea has a unique taste, often considered to be an acquired taste, and can be enjoyed at any time of the day.

 

Pu’er tea is popular for its antioxidant, immune-boosting, blood pressure regulating and weight loss properties.

 

Brewing Instructions: Brew 1 -2 teaspoon per cup for 30-60 seconds in freshly boiled water at 95 °C. Like fine Chinese teas, it is recommended to brew for short times over a series of infusions and enjoy the evolution of flavour. Serve with or without milk and sweetener. Try it with a fresh slice of orange or tropical fruit.
