Botanical Name: Satureia hortensis

Savory, a herb of the mint family, is native to the Mediterranean region. It is aromatic with a flavour that is earthy and peppery with a hint of thyme, marjoram and oregano.

Dried Savory is commonly used in the Mediterranean, Italian and French cuisine. Americans use it as a sausage stuffing for Thanksgiving. It is one of the main ingredients in Herbes de Provence blend and most popular herb for beans.

Spice Zen’s dried Savory, sourced from Turkey, is organic, premium, aromatic and full of flavour. Best used in rubs, homemade marinades or salad dressings. It should be added towards the end of the cooking.

Savory is a natural source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. It is often used as an antiseptic and anti-microbial herb.

Savory pairs well with other seasonings like bay leaf, caraway, celery, garlic, ginger, lovage, marjoram, paprika, parsley and thyme. It compliments beans, green vegetables, cabbage, capsicum, onion, potatoes and tomatoes. Use it with cheese, eggs, chicken and pork or add it to sauces, stuffings, soups and stews.

One teaspoon of dried Savory leaves equals one tablespoon of fresh Savory leaves.

Organic Ingredient: Savory.

Simple recipes: Make a tea or use it in herb butter or a salad dressing.
