Botanical Name: Rosmarinus officinalis
Rosemary, a herb of the mint family, is native to the Mediterranean region. It has been used over the centuries for culinary and medicinal purposes. It is very aromatic with a woody, minty, cooling with a little warm and peppery aroma. It has a very pungent, pine-like and sweet flavour.
Dried Rosemary is commonly used in Mediterranean cuisine to season bread, cheese, cream sauces, eggs, lentils, marinades, meats (beef, chicken, lamb, fish, pork, wild games), salads, sauces, soups, stews, vegetables (mushrooms, onion, peas, potatoes, spinach, squash, tomatoes), vinegar. It is often used in other herb blends like Bouquet Garni, Herbes de Provence.
Spice Zen’s dried Rosemary, sourced from Egypt, is organic, premium, aromatic and has a distinctive flavour. Gently crush dried Rosemary needles as they are spikey. Dried Rosemary retains its fragrance and flavour exceedingly well and a small quantity is sufficient to enhance the flavour. Add during the cooking process to release the essential oils.
Rosemary is a natural source of vitamins (A, C & B6), folate and minerals (iron, calcium, magnesium and potassium). It is used for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunity and improving blood circulation properties.
Rosemary pairs well with other seasonings like bay leaf, chives, garlic, oregano, parsley, sage and thyme.
One teaspoon of dried Rosemary equals one tablespoon of fresh Rosemary leaves.
Organic Ingredient: Rosemary.
Simple potato recipe: Rub new season potatoes (skin on) with butter, garlic powder and crushed dried Rosemary. Roast in the oven till golden & tender.
Lamb recipe: Rub a rack of lamb with garlic, olive oil and crushed Rosemary & roast in the oven.
Dried Rosemary can be used as a natural alternative to the “dryer sheet”. Put them in a mesh bag and place it in the clothes dryer with your next load.
