Botanical name: Capsicum annum

We source Organic Red Chilli Flakes (mild hot, 10,000 - 15,000 SHU*) from India and pack it in a recyclable, amber coloured, glass jar with an airtight induction seal, on receipt of your order, to maximise freshness.

Red Chilli Flakes is made by crushing the whole dried pepper – outer skins, veins and the seeds. The crushing (unlike grinding for Red Chilli Powder) produces the flakes, giving it a beautiful colour, full flavour and lots of heat.

Red Chilli Flakes is native to Central and South America. While usually associated with Italian food, it is an essential ingredient in many Indian, African, Asian and Mexican dishes. Used in cooking or as a garnish, it adds a different textural and flavour dimension to a dish without making every mouthful hot and spicy.

Red Chili Flakes is usually used in chowders, curries, pizza, pastas, pickling, salads, sandwiches, sausages, soups, sauces, stir-fries or vegetable recipes – specially potatoes, tomatoes and broccoli.

Red Chili Flakes pairs well with Coconut Milk, Lemon/Lime Juice, Mint and most spices.

*Scoville Heat Unit is the measure of heat in the chilli. It can range from 100 in Bell Peppers to 1 million (in Ghost) and above. Mild Hot is a Spice Zen classification.
