Nigella Seed (also referred as Black Cumin, Black Onion Seed, Black Caraway or Kalonji) is indigenous to Southern Europe, North Africa and Southwest Asia. It has a pungent aroma that is a blend of oregano, black pepper and onion. It has a somewhat bitter, dry and nutty flavour and texture. The distinct flavour of Nigella Seed gives a spicy flavour to the food.

Nigella Seed is used in Middle Eastern and Indian dishes. It is often dry roasted, sprinkled on flatbreads and rolls or used in curries, legumes, pod fruit, rice, salad, chicken and vegetarian dishes.

Nigella Seed works well in combination with Allspice, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Coriander, Cumin, Fennel Seed, Fenugreek, Pepper, Turmeric, Savory and Thyme.
