The whole Fenugreek Seed is freshly stoneground, on receipt of your order, which brings out an intense, sharp aroma. Stoneground spices have a naturally uneven, earthy texture that adds a rustic mouth feel. This is immediately packed in a recyclable, amber coloured, glass jar, with an airtight induction seal, to maximise freshness of the product – you will get an intense aroma of fresh ground Fenugreek Seed when you open the jar.
Fenugreek is native to the Mediterranean region (Southern Europe, North Africa and Western Asia) and India where it was often found to grow in the wild. The leaves (referred as Methi in India) and seeds (whole and ground) are used in cooking, imparting a distinctive sharpness to curries and vegetable dishes. It has a slightly bitter flavour similar to celery seed, lovage, maple syrup or burnt sugar.
Ground Fenugreek Seed is used in Indian, Turkish, Egyptian, and Middle Eastern cuisine. It is found in curry powders and is a key ingredient in Vindaloo Curry, Sri Lankan hot curries, fish curries, pickles, root or green vegetables, lamb, legumes, potatoes, rice, tomatoes, sauces, soups, bread and in the Indian five spice blend Panch Phoron.The ground Fenugreek can be mixed into flour to make a spicy flatbread.
Fenugreek goes well with Cardamom, Coriander, Cumin, Cinnamon, Cloves, Fennel Seed, Garlic, Pepper, Nigella Seed and Turmeric.
