Botanical name: Pimenta dioica

We handcraft our Stoneground Allspice, using Organic Allspice sourced from Guatemala, to ensure purity and quality of our product.

The Allspice Berries are freshly stoneground, on receipt of your order, to bring out an intense aroma. Stoneground spices have a naturally uneven, earthy texture that adds a rustic mouth feel. This is immediately packed in a recyclable, amber coloured, glass jar, with an airtight induction seal, to maximise freshness of the product – you will get a strong aroma of fresh ground Allspice when you open the jar.

Allspice Berries are the dried, unripe fruits of an evergreen tree of Myrtaceae family and is native to the Caribbean and Central America. It is also called Jamaica Pepper or Pimento Berries. They have a dark brown exterior and a warm, spicy, sweet, pungent aroma with a flavour that is a mix of Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Cloves. Ground Allspice flavour is more intense than whole berries but lose its pungency.

Allspice is popular in American, British, Caribbean, German, North African and Scandinavian cuisines. The complex spiciness and sweetness of Allspice Berries makes them versatile in sweet and savoury dishes as well as beverages like mulled wine and hot cider. Allspice can be used in ground form or whole. It is a signature spice in the seasoning blends Jamaican jerk, Berbere and Moroccan Vegetable Rub.

Ground Allspice berries are used to flavour apple pie, cookies, chili sauces, curries, fruit compote, gravies, gingerbread, marinades, mulling, pickles, pimento dram – a popular Jamaican drink, puddings, pumpkin pie and spice butter, spice cakes, relishes, roasts and soups. Try sprinkling a pinch on roasted vegetables for a hint of warmth.

Allspice works well in combination with Chili Powder, Cinnamon, Cloves, Coriander, Garlic, Ginger, Mustard, Pepper, Rosemary and Thyme.
