Description
Botanical Name: Salvia officinalis
Spice Zen’s certified organic Crushed Sage is a beautifully aromatic Mediterranean herb cherished for centuries in food, folklore and traditional kitchen craft. A member of the mint family, sage is renowned for its warming, savoury aroma, its lightly peppery–camphorous depth, and its ability to bring grounding richness to both simple meals and festive dishes.
Our sage is grown on certified organic farms, gently dried and crushed to retain its high essential-oil content. With a quick rub between the fingers, the leaves release a burst of warm, herbaceous fragrance. Packed fresh in our gluten-free Sydney facility, this herb maintains impeccable purity, colour and flavour.
Its natural astringency makes it particularly suited to rich foods; it cuts through fat in roasted meats, creamy sauces and bean dishes, bringing balance and digestion-friendly comfort to hearty meals.
Sage also carries a long lineage of traditional use in the home. Historically, bunches of sage were hung in kitchens and storerooms or simmered in pots to freshen and cleanse the air, especially during seasonal changes. It remains a classic herb in bouquet garni, featuring in slow-cooked soups, broths, braises and winter recipes.
