Allspice Berries are the dried, unripe fruits of an evergreen tree of Myrtaceae family and is native to the Caribbean and Central America. It is also called Jamaica Pepper or Pimento Berries. They have a dark brown exterior and a warm, spicy, sweet, pungent aroma with a flavour that is a mix of Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Cloves.
Allspice is popular in American, British, Caribbean, German, North African and Scandinavian cuisines. The complex spiciness and sweetness of Allspice Berries makes them versatile in sweet and savoury dishes as well as beverages like mulled wine and hot cider. Allspice can be used in ground form or whole. It is a signature spice in the seasoning blends Jamaican jerk, Berbere and Moroccan Vegetable Rub.
