Description
Description
Botanical Name: Camellia sinensis.
Ripe Pu’er tea invites the drinker into the quiet, layered world of aged teas. Dark, grounding and contemplative, this fermented tea has been treasured in China since the Tang dynasty, once reserved for royalty and ceremonial use. Its character is shaped not only by leaf and land, but by time itself.
Ripe Pu’er, also known as shou Pu’er, is crafted through a carefully managed microbial fermentation of larger tea leaves. This modern method accelerates the natural ageing process traditionally used for raw Pu’er, producing a tea that is smooth, mellow and ready to drink while still offering depth and evolution in the cup.
Spice Zen’s Certified Organic Ripe Pu’er is sourced from China and made from mature tea leaves selected for their richness and resilience. The dry leaf shows deep mahogany and dark brown tones with an earthy, warm aroma. When brewed, it produces a clear, dark liquor that is smooth and rounded on the palate, revealing notes of damp forest floor, aged wood and soft mushroom, with a gentle sweetness that becomes more pronounced across successive infusions.
This is a tea for slow moments and repeated infusions, valued for its grounding presence and its ability to unfold gradually rather than demand attention.
Hand-packed in small batches at our 100 percent gluten-free Sydney facility, this Pu’er is sealed in biodegradable, resealable stand-up green pouches with inner foil to protect aroma, freshness and leaf integrity.
Flavour & Aroma Profile
Earthy, smooth and woody with soft mushroom tones, gentle smokiness and a mellow, lingering sweetness.
How to Brew
- Use 1 to 2 teaspoons per 200 ml of water.
- Bring fresh water to approximately 95°C.
- For the first infusion, steep for 30 to 60 seconds, then pour and enjoy.
- For subsequent infusions, gradually increase the steeping time, allowing the tea to open and soften with each round.
Ripe Pu’er is well suited to multiple infusions. Each steep reveals a smoother, sweeter and more rounded expression of the leaf.
Enjoy plain to appreciate its depth. Milk or a light sweetener may be added for a smooth cup.
