From the Spice Zen Haute Couture Tea Collection
Darjeeling Phuguri Oolong is one of the region’s rarest and most captivating teas, a handcrafted grand cru that bridges the bright, floral character of Darjeeling black tea with the nuanced, mellow refinement of Chinese oolong. Harvested from the high-altitude certified organic Phuguri Tea Estate, this tea expresses the full beauty of Darjeeling’s chinary cultivar under exceptional growing conditions: cool mountain temperatures, ancient soils and gardens perched at over 1,500 metres.
Only the youngest leaves and the tender first bud are picked for this tea. After a gentle natural wither under Himalayan sun and mountain air, the leaves are delicately hand-rolled and lightly pan-fired, artisan techniques that preserve their integrity and nuanced aroma. The dry leaf displays elegant twists of olive, bronze and ivory buds, carrying notes of muscatel, stone fruit and fresh florals.
Rolled into compact twists, the leaves open slowly during infusion, revealing long, intact oolong leaves, a hallmark of skilled hand-rolling and exceptional leaf integrity.
When steeped, this hand-rolled tea unfurls into a vibrant amber liquor with ruby highlights, carrying a classic Darjeeling bouquet: muscatel warmth, gentle fruit, soft florals, and a refined crisp finish. Its medium strength and layered complexity make it exceptionally versatile, perfect for an everyday ritual cup yet elevated enough for a refined tasting experience.
Hand-packed in small batches at our gluten-free Sydney facility, this limited-release Oolong is a true treasure of the Haute Couture collection.
