Description
Botanical Name: Cajanus cajan
Pigeon pea, commonly known as Toor dal or Arhar dal, is a cornerstone of Indian home cooking and one of the most widely used lentils across South Asia. With its warm, earthy flavour and comforting texture, it forms the backbone of countless regional dals, sambars and slow-simmered dishes that have nourished generations.
Spice Zen’s Certified Organic Pigeon Pea Lentils are carefully sourced from certified organic farms in India and cleaned to high purity standards. Once cooked, these lentils soften into a rich, creamy consistency while retaining enough body to give dishes depth and substance. Their flavour is fuller and more rounded than lighter lentils, making them especially suited to spiced preparations and longer cooking.
Whether simmered into a classic everyday dal, enriched with vegetables and spices, or used as the base for South Indian-style sambars, pigeon pea lentils deliver warmth, satisfaction and a sense of culinary familiarity that makes them a true pantry essential.
