Description
Spice Zen Certified Organic Cold‑Pressed Peanut Oil is extracted from Australian‑grown organic peanuts, pressed once at low temperature to draw out their naturally golden oil. Unrefined and full of character, it retains the warm aroma and rounded nuttiness that define true peanut oil, offering a very different experience from the neutral refined oils used for high‑temperature frying.
Known also as groundnut oil, peanut oil has an enduring place across Indian and Asian cooking. Its natural affinity with spices, chilli, ginger and aromatics makes it equally at home in a fragrant curry or tempering as it is in a wok, noodle bowl, satay sauce or dressing.
Our pressing approach is simple: an oil should retain the identity of the ingredient it comes from. First cold pressing and minimal processing allow the peanut’s natural colour, aroma and flavour to remain present, with subtle variation from one batch to another. A slight natural haze or fine sediment may occasionally appear, reflecting the oil’s unrefined nature rather than something we attempt to standardise away.
This is an everyday cooking oil with provenance: Australian peanuts, first cold pressing and the warm, natural flavour of the ingredient carried through to the bottle.
Flavour & Aroma Profile

How to Use
Cold‑pressed peanut oil is versatile in any dish that welcomes its gentle nuttiness.
- Curries & vegetables: Sauté aromatics and spices or use as the cooking base for curries, sabzi and vegetable dishes.
- Tempering: Heat gently with mustard seeds, cumin, curry leaves and other whole spices.
- Stir-fries: Use for vegetables, tofu, chicken and controlled wok cooking.
- Noodles & rice: Toss through noodles or rice with chilli, ginger, tamari or fresh herbs.
- Satay & sauces: A natural choice for peanut sauces, dipping sauces and satay-style dishes.
- Marinades: Pair with spices, ginger, garlic, chilli, tamari, lime or vinegar.
- Dressings & finishing: Whisk into dressings or drizzle over warm vegetables and savoury bowls where its nutty character can be appreciated.
Cooking & Smoke Point
Peanut oil is often described as a high‑heat cooking oil, but this applies to refined peanut oil rather than cold‑pressed, unrefined peanut oil.
Refined peanut oil is processed to create a neutral oil with a high smoke point, commonly around 230°C, which is why it is widely used for deep‑frying and very high‑temperature cooking.
Cold‑pressed peanut oil retains more of the peanut’s natural compounds and therefore has a lower smoke point. Published guidance places unrefined peanut oil at approximately 160-180°C, although the exact temperature varies with filtration and processing.
Spice Zen Cold-Pressed Peanut Oil is therefore best suited to moderate-heat cooking, sautéing, tempering and controlled stir-frying, as well as sauces, marinades, dressings and finishing. Avoid heating the oil until it smokes.

Good to Know
Is peanut oil the same as groundnut oil?
Yes. Peanut oil and groundnut oil are different names for oil obtained from peanuts (Arachis hypogaea). The term groundnut oil is particularly common in India, where the oil has a longstanding culinary role.
What makes Spice Zen Peanut Oil different from refined peanut oil?
It is certified organic, Australian‑grown, first cold‑pressed and unrefined. Refined peanut oil undergoes additional processing and deodorisation to create a neutral flavour and higher smoke point.
What does first cold pressed mean?
It means the oil is taken from the first mechanical pressing of the peanuts, using low temperature to protect the natural aroma, flavour and colour. Only one pressing is used, so the oil reflects the true character of the ingredient without further refining or heat treatment.
Can I cook with cold-pressed peanut oil?
Yes. It is ideal for curries, tempering, sautéing, vegetables and moderate‑heat stir‑frying, as well as marinades, sauces and dressings. It should not be used like refined peanut oil designed for very high‑temperature frying.
What is the smoke point of cold-pressed peanut oil?
Unrefined peanut oil does not have one universal smoke point. Published guidance commonly places it around 160–180°C, compared with approximately 230°C for refined peanut oil. The oil should never be heated until it begins to smoke.
Why is my cold-pressed peanut oil slightly cloudy?
A slight haze can occur naturally in unrefined oils. Minimal processing can leave naturally occurring components and very fine particles in the oil, and temperature can also influence clarity.
Where are Spice Zen's peanuts grown?
Our Peanut Oil is pressed from Australian-grown certified organic peanuts,
Is cold-pressed peanut oil suitable for people with peanut allergies?
No. It is an unrefined peanut product and is not suitable for people with a peanut allergy.
