Description
Botanical Name: Rosa canina
Rosehip shells are the dried outer fruit of the wild rose, traditionally gathered after flowering and preserved for year-round use. Across European, Persian and Central Asian food cultures, rosehips have long appeared in household beverages, preserves and seasonal preparations, valued for their fresh, apple-like brightness and vivid red colour.
Spice Zen’s Certified Organic Rosehip Shells are selected for quality and consistency, then quality checked and hand-packed in our gluten free Sydney facility. When brewed, they produce a deep ruby infusion with a naturally sweet and tangy profile. Their clean acidity and fruit character make them equally suited to pure herbal infusions and creative kitchen use.
In the modern kitchen, rosehip shells bring brightness to jams, syrups and compotes, while their colour and tang lend structure to tea blends, iced drinks and sparkling seasonal beverages.
Flavour & Aroma Profile
Fresh and lightly floral with sweet, tangy apple-like notes and a clean, bright finish.
How to Brew
- Use 1 teaspoon per 200 ml hot water for a fruit-forward herbal infusion
- Simmer 1 tablespoon in 500 ml water for 10 minutes for a deeper decoction-style brew
- Brew double strength and chill for iced tea
- Add 1 to 2 tablespoons to 2 cups water when making syrups or fruit cordials
- Simmer 1 tablespoon with stewed apples or berries for added brightness
- Blend 1 teaspoon with hibiscus or rose petals for layered herbal teas
- Crush lightly before brewing for stronger colour and flavour
Adjust steeping time to control tang and intensity. Longer brewing brings fuller body and deeper ruby colour.

Wellness Tradition
Rosehip shells have traditionally been enjoyed as a fruit infusion across European and Middle Eastern food cultures. They are appreciated for their vibrant colour and naturally tangy flavour and are commonly included in seasonal herbal routines, particularly during cooler months.
Rosehip is culturally associated with plant-based nutrients and natural acidity, making it a popular choice in everyday herbal preparations focused on gentle nourishment rather than stimulation.
Caution
Herbal tisanes can be a gentle part of daily ritual, but every body is unique. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or under medical care, please consult your practitioner before introducing new herbs.
