Description
Botanical Name: Sinapis alba
Yellow mustard seed has been part of global cooking for thousands of years, loved for its clean heat, citrusy lift and ability to transform simple ingredients with a single pinch. Milder and sunnier than brown or black mustard, yellow mustard seed offers a warm, rounded pungency that “blooms” beautifully when mixed with water, vinegar, yoghurt or heat.
Spice Zen’s certified organic Ground Yellow Mustard Seed is crafted from freshly ground seeds in small batches, releasing their full, lively aroma. Once milled, the powder is hand-packed in recyclable amber glass at our gluten-free Sydney facility, protecting the delicate natural oils that give mustard its characteristic warmth.
Highly versatile across Indian, European, American and Middle Eastern cooking, it adds gentle heat to curries, chutneys, pickles, salad dressings, vinaigrettes, marinades, roasted vegetables and classic mustard sauces. Yellow mustard is also naturally emulsifying, helping to bind creamy dressings and sauces with ease.
Flavour & Aroma Profile
Warm, mildly spicy and citrus-bright with a clean, pungent aroma and subtly nutty undertone.
How to Use
-
Use ½ tsp per 2–3 serves in dressings, marinades or sauces
-
Stir into vinaigrettes with oil and vinegar for natural body and gentle heat
-
Mix into yoghurt or mayonnaise for dips and sandwich spreads
-
Add to curries, lentils or vegetable dishes for subtle pungency
