Description
Botanical name: Illicium verum
Star anise is one of the most distinctive spices of the East, a beautiful star-shaped fruit with a naturally sweet, warm, licorice-like aroma and gentle peppery depth. Native to the evergreen forests of China and Vietnam, it has long been essential to Chinese, Southeast Asian, Indian and Middle Eastern cuisines, prized for its ability to add complexity, warmth and brightness to both savoury and sweet dishes.
Spice Zen’s Ground Star Anise is crafted from certified organic whole stars that are lightly roasted to awaken their essential oils, then stoneground in small batches for a rich, intensely aromatic powder. Its naturally uneven texture gives a rustic, handcrafted mouthfeel that blends beautifully into broths, curries and baking. Each jar is hand-packed in recyclable amber glass in our gluten-free Sydney facility to preserve its delicate volatile oils.
