Description
A sprinkle that awakens everything it touches, Shichimi Togarashi brings together citrus peel, warm chilli, aromatic pepper and the savoury crunch of sesame and seaweed in a way that feels immediate and alive.
Meaning seven-flavour chilli, it emerged in Japan during the Edo period, when herbalists blended warming botanicals for flavour and balance. Over time it became a beloved table condiment found in noodle shops, izakayas and family kitchens across Japan.
Spice Zen’s certified organic Shichimi Togarashi honours this heritage through a carefully layered composition. Red chilli offers steady warmth. Szechuan pepper contributes its gentle tingling brightness. Ginger adds lift. Orange peel delivers crisp citrus clarity. Sesame, black sesame, poppy seed and sustainably harvested nori create the textured, umami-rich foundation that defines authentic Shichimi.
The result is vibrant and expressive without overwhelming the dish. It sharpens broths, lifts noodles, deepens grilled foods and adds colour and crunch wherever it lands.
Hand-milled and blended in small batches at our gluten free Sydney facility using certified organic botanicals selected for purity and aromatic strength. Packed fresh in recyclable amber glass jars to preserve texture, fragrance and colour.
