Description
Black sesame oil is one of the most ancient and revered seed oils in the world, prized for its warmth, aroma and quietly powerful presence in both kitchen and ritual.
Spice Zen’s Certified Organic Black Sesame Seed Oil is crafted in small batches at our certified organic, gluten-free Sydney facility using premium unhulled Sesamum indicum. Pressed once only, slowly and at low temperature, it captures the seed’s natural aromatic oils, smokiness, warm nutty depth and sweetness without the harsh sharpness found in toasted sesame oils.
After pressing, each batch is allowed to settle naturally by microgravity, suspended sesame solids gently rest at the base without filtration, bleaching or refining resulting in a smooth, light-golden oil with a rich sesame fragrance and a rounded warmth.
Most commercially available black sesame oils are toasted, heated, deodorized or refined, producing a sharp, aggressive flavour. Our extra virgin black sesame oil is unrefined, unfiltered and intentionally gentle.
This minimal-intervention process preserves sesame’s naturally occurring antioxidants and stabilising aromatic compounds, giving the oil a surprisingly resilient oxidative profile compared to industrial seed oils.
Black sesame is one of the world’s oldest oil seeds, revered for over 4,500 years across Asia, the Middle East and in Ayurveda. Long called the “Queen of Oils,” it has nourished both kitchen and rituals from grounding Abhyanga massage to warming porridges, noodles and celebratory dishes.
