Botanical name: Psidium guajava
Guava tree is native to Mexico and Central America and is cultivated widely in tropical and subtropical countries. Guava fruit is a popular and delicious superfood packed with nutrients. For centuries, ancient medicine in Brazil, Mexico and East Asian countries have been using Guava leaves as a natural remedy for sore throat, diabetes, blood pressure, hair loss and many other ailments. It is now a Japanese response to the growing diabetes problem, where the aqueous guava leaf extract has been approved and recommended for people with pre-diabetes.
Spice Zen's Guava Leaf Tea is a premium quality, certified-organic, caffeine-free, pure, dried loose-leaf Guava leaves from Thailand. It steeps into a rosé-coloured liquid with a fruity, herbaceous, mildly bitter flavour and delightful aroma of exotic fruit. Add freshly boiled water to 1 teaspoon of leaves and steep for 5 minutes. Enjoy this tea with or after meals. Simmer the leaves in boiling water for 10 minutes for an intense flavour and to extract most of its nutrients. In Thailand, Guava leaf tea with honey and lemon is a popular summer drink.
Some studies have indicated that guava leaf and its extract are power-house of antioxidants, Vitamin C, polyphenols, carotenoids, flavonoids, tannins with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Drinking guava leaf tea with or after meals may help with suppressing blood sugar spikes. Guava has more vitamins C, E, potassium, magnesium and fibre than orange.
