Famed for its complex bouquet and depth of flavour, typically made from over 20 different herbs and spices, Ras el Hanout is popularly used in North African, Moroccan and Middle Eastern cuisine. In Arabic, its name roughly translates to “top shelf”, implying that this blend is the finest offering available in a traditional spice vendor’s treasury.

Robust and earthy, with strongly perfumed notes of cinnamon and rose petal, Ras el Hanout’s robust flavours are built for use as a rub or marinade on grilled meats and fish, as a seasoning for rice, soups and couscous or as a key flavour is in slow-cooked stews and tagines.

It is the star ingredient in the famous Moroccan dish of lamb, raisins and honey known as Mrouzia. Sweet and spicy, it pairs perfectly with North African dishes that combine heavy meats with the light tartness of preserved fruits.

Spice Zen’s very own Ras el Hanout is a harmonious blend of 23 premium spices, roasted and stoneground to impart a pungent, sweet, warm and floral flavour.

Use Ras el Hanout as a rub, in marinades, a seasoning for rice, couscous, meat, chicken, fish, vegetables and tagines. Add 1 teaspoon for each cup of rice or couscous.

Free from onion and garlic, our Ras el Hanout Blend is also Fodmap-friendly for those with IBS. Read more about the low Fodmap diet at https://www.medicinenet.com/low_fodmap_diet_list_of_foods_to_eat_and_avoid/article.htm

Much better than other stuff I've used to make Moroccan lamb dishes.

A blend that can be so mnay things because of the number of ingredients that are traditionally used. I had a favourite blend before I discovered Spice Zen (which I did because I was unable to access my old supplier). I was thrilled to find that this blend suited me a better. A delightful blend. I tend to make up my own recipes, and recently added this to baked root veggies.. it worked brilliantly. So pleased to find a supplier who is both organic and knows their stuff.

As with all the other Spice Blend products I have used so far, this one does not disappoint. It has a fabulous flavour when added to chicken or other meat. I also spray a tray of vegetables with olive oil then sprinkle on some of this blend and roast them. Delicious!!
